What is the chemical compound of isopropyl alcohol?

Propyl alcohol isomer. It is a volatile, colorless liquid with a musty odor, reminiscent of rubbing alcohol (the smell of a mixture of ethanol and acetone). It has a slightly bitter taste. Mixes with alcohol, ether, chloroform. Insoluble in salt solution. Dissolves very well in benzene. It mixes with water. Combustible substance. It has antibacterial properties. It is not intended for drinking.

Storage

Keep away from sources of heat, ignition, sparks, fire. The substance should be in tightly closed containers, at room temperature, away from moisture. Keep in a ventilated room.

Precautions

Do not smoke while using the product. The product is not suitable for consumption. Use protective gloves, protect eyes. If applied to skin, do not smoke until it is dry and absorbed. Avoid use on open wounds, abrasions, scratches, burns. Vapors can form an explosive mixture with air.

Application of isopropyl alcohol

Isopropyl alcohol is primarily antibacterial. It is widely used as a disinfectant (either by itself or as a component of various chemicals). It serves as an alcohol-based rubbing antiseptic. It is a component of natibacterial soaps. It has an antibacterial effect (kills bacteria by damaging the cell membrane and bacterial DNA). It prevents bacterial dermatitis. It is used in healthcare facilities to wipe the skin prior to injection. It is also used for local stretching to relieve muscle pain.

In industry, it is used as an inexpensive solvent for cosmetics, drugs, gums and resins. It is also used to denature ethanol. Isopropyl alcohol is used as a cleaning agent. It does not corrode metals or plastics, so it can be used on all surfaces and leaves no streaks, even on glass or screens. It prevents the windows from freezing. It can be used as a rub against fleas or ticks in animals.

Effect on the body

First aid

After contact with skin, wash off under a shower if severe irritation occurs. Take off contaminated clothing. In case of inhalation and if you feel unwell, take the sufferer to fresh air. After contact with eyes, rinse eyes with plenty of water. Remove contact lenses and continue rinsing. Consult an ophthalmologist immediately. If swallowed, call a doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting.
